Event Description:  This is a family-oriented event with fun for all ages to celebrate the culmination of summer.  Liquid refreshments, grilled items and accompaniments will be provided. We expect that the sun will shine since we have taken the precaution of renting a shelter to ward off inclement weather.

We have reserved Shelter A.  It is important to take the 7400 Tuckerman Lane entrance (on the south side of Tuckerman Lane) in order to be able to find our group easily since the park is very large (please consult directions below - with map of our corner of the park).

If you are new to Washington and don't yet know anyone, we can promise you that this will no longer be the case after this event.

Entertainment, Prizes and Surprises.

Door-less prizes (for categories to be announced at the event)

Prizes for winners of contests - Such as frisbee distance and accuracy, three-legged race, joke-telling, musical performance, watermelon-eating, juggling, most extraordinary feat of skill, (contest program subject to change without notice - suggestions welcome).

ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE A FUN RUN STARTING AT 1:15 PM - This will take place on an under-two mile course that starts and ends at the picnic shelter; it loops around the miniature railroad through the woods.  Although this run is just for fun, participants will include members of other MBA-Alliance Business School Clubs, and there will be an award to the fastest finisher and to the Club fielding the largest number of participants.

A Note about the Location:  The park facilities are superb - one of Washington's best kept secrets.

Across the parking lot from our shelter there is a major league playground, decorated by a totem pole, with enough climbing, tunneling, sliding and swinging equipment to tire out the most energetic young enthusiast; not far away is the miniature train station with rides departing every half hour from 10:00 AM (until 4:30 PM); there are extensive hiking/jogging/biking trails, athletic facilities, and a nature centre described at the park's website: Cabin John Regional Park

It seems that the plentiful wildlife (chipmunks, deer, foxes, a large variety of birds, etc.) tends to go into hiding when human visitors become numerous, though the chipmunks are never far away.

You may wish to come early to make full use of the park and you might like to bring a picnic blanket - there is plenty of grassy space at the amphitheatre a short distance from the shelter.

Dress Code: Smiles Obligatory

Directions: Driving West on Tuckerman Lane from Bethesda take the first left after the light at Westlake Drive  (into the 7400 Tuckerman Lane entrance - E1 on map below), and immediately take another left into the parking lot adjacent to Shelter A which is accessed by an asphalt-covered path -part of the squiggly red network on the map.

For those coming from the West, please note that the 7400 Tuckerman Lane entrance (E1) is on the south side of the road.

Note: This is not a METRO-friendly location - the nearest station (Grosvenor) is a 3 mile hike away.
